I. The Nerg Tribe
Let’s head to the Nerg Plains, where we find all of the Tactical mice. If you’re new to the Tribal Isles as a legendary, this is a good place to start. Lots of gold, lots of points. Equip your best tactical trap- in most cases, that will be the Ambush, although owners of a Limited-Edition tactical trap will benefit from one of those, instead!
Before you leave for Nerg, purchase the following from the general store on Cape Clawed:
90 C&W, 15 coconut milk and 1 salt
We’ll be using it to make some new cheese in the very near future!
Welcome to Nerg- if you haven’t noticed yet, Nerg is “Gren” backwards, and all of the mice here are… Green! Enjoy the new designs and watch the points & gold flow.
As you hunt here, every mouse has a chance of dropping a very specific kind of loot- Savoury Vegetables. These vegetables are the reason you’re here; you need 30 vegetables in order to make a new cheese known as Gumbo cheese. The recipe is:
30 Savory Vegetables + 90 curds and whey + 15 coconut milk + 1 salt = 15 Gumbo
Alternately, add 5 magic essence to the recipe to get 20 Gumbo.
Once you have your 15-20 gumbo, you have two choice. One, you can equip it right now in Nerg and use it to attract some very valuable mice. However, a more logical option is to save it for now. Instead, let’s move back to Cape Clawed and use it there so that we can get a new, much better trap!
Getting the Thorned Venus Mouse Trap
(Before you do anything in this section, know that if you own a Limited Edition tactical trap, you do not need to craft a Thorned Venus Mouse Trap- your trap is actually much better)
Cape Clawed holds the secrets necessary for constructing a very powerful tactical trap known as the Thorned Venus Mouse Trap. To get this trap, keep your tactical trap equipped, equip your gumbo cheese, and hunt in Cape Clawed. You’re looking for what we call the “Elder” of the Nerg tribe- known as the Grandfather Mouse.
Don’t let the name fool you! He’s a tough old mouse and you may not get him on your first try. However, once you do grab him, he should drop a crafting ingredient known as the Thorned Vine (seen below)
With the thorned vine in hand, you are ready to craft the Thorned Venus Mouse Trap! That was quick! To make it, you need the following ingredients:
1 Venus Mouse Trap Husk + 1 Thorned Mouse Trap Plans + 1 Thorned Vine = 1 Thorned Venus Mouse Trap
There might be a couple of obstacles from a gold point of view- if you didn’t purchase the Venus Mouse Trap for hunting in Furoma, you’ll need to buy one now for a cool 300,000 gold, which isn’t cheap (and yes, you can smash the Mutated Venus Mouse Trap for the same effect). Next, the blueprints, which are sold in Cape Clawed’s general store, cost 550,000 gold. There’s also the point requirement. Most hunters who spend a fair amount of time in Bristle Woods will have 8 million points by now, but if you skipped out on that area, you may be quite short on points. That being the case, you can always head to Elub, or you can just keep hunting in Nerg. Either way, once you’ve gotten the necessary gold and points, go ahead and craft yourself a Thorned Venus Mouse Trap.
Congratulations! Far better than the Ambush, this trap should help quite a bit in the Nerg Plains.
BUT WAIT! THERE’S MORE!
As you may recall, the Venus Mouse Trap could be smashed and rebuilt using Radioactive Sludge. Doing so constructed a mutated venus mouse trap. Go figure, you can smash the Thorned Venus Mouse Trap, add radioactive sludge to the mix, and make an even better trap! The Horrific Venus Mouse Trap.
1 Thorned Venus Mouse Trap Husk + 20 Radioactive Sludge = 1 Horrific Venus Mouse Trap
Statistically it’s not much different from the Thorned Venus Mouse Trap. However, it does add some power and luck in exchange for losing 1% of attraction, so it’s well worth crafting it.
Finishing off the Tribe
Now that you’ve got a great tactical trap, you’re ready to take on the Nerg for real! Use the rest of your Gumbo cheese on the Nerg Plains. We’re going to see some new Nerg mice- they are the Defender, the Slayer, and all the way up to the big cheese himself (pardon the pun), the Nerg Chieftain.

They shouldn’t pose much of a problem now that you’ve improved your trap. Don’t expect it to be easy, but know that of the three tribes, this one should be the easiest. Each of these mice drop a piece of loot when caught- they will drop either 1,2 or 3 Yellow Pepper Seeds. Hold on to them for now- you will need them later.
Furthermore, if you’re lucky, you’ll get an Ancient Ripped Blueprint Piece from the Nerg Chieftain. You need one of these as well (although, again, not until much later)
Feel free to leave and head to the Elub Shore or the Derr Dunes; however, before you head to the Jungle of Dread, make sure to have the following in your inventory:
- 36 yellow seeds
- The Ancient Ripped Blueprint Piece
