III. The Derr Tribe

So you want to go to the Derr Dunes, where tough physical mice rule. I will warn you now- this place is much harder (that is, much more frustrating) than Elub and Nerg. However, the area is heavy in gold rewards, making it a great place for the poor hunter to replenish his wealth. I hope you’ve bought that Drillbot, gotten the Onyx Mallet or one of Ronza’s physical traps, because nothing else is going to work. Even the Acro, which up until now was great on physical mice, is less effective here and you will get thrashed if you use it.

Also, before you move, purchase the following from the general store on Cape Clawed:
10 C&W, 20 coconut milk and 30 salt
You’ll use it to craft some cheese when you get there.

All set? Great- let’s get going.

So, we’re hunting, and we’re hunting… and you’ll notice that almost every mouse here drops loot- they drop the Delicious Stone.
untitled

We’re back in the dojo, folks. The delicious stone is the missing ingredient for your new cheese. Once you’ve gotten a few (well, 30- not really a few, I suppose), we’re going to craft with it! We’re making Crunchy Cheese. The recipe is:

30 Delicious Stone + 10 curds and whey + 20 coconut milk + 30 salt= 15 Crunchy
Something you might consider is adding 5 more magic essence, so that way you’ll get 20 Crunchy

From here you have two options- you can either use it, or you can save it for later.
Personally, I recommend saving it. Head back to Cape Clawed to use it instead.

Getting the Rhinobot

(DISCLAIMER: Users of the Partybot, Christmas Cracker or Chrome Drillbot should skip this section- the Rhinobot isn’t really needed if you have one, especially since it costs so darned much)

If you’ve got 16 million points, a drillbot and 940,000 gold, you’re going for the motherload of all traps- the strongest trap in the game. The Rhinobot. Even if you don’t have the gol$d and point requirements, you can go hunting for the parts necessary.

To get this trap, head back to Cape Clawed. Using Crunchy cheese, you’re looking for what we call the “Elder” of the Derr tribe- known as the Aged Mouse.
untitled
Keep using your Physical Trap (in case there was some confusion about that.) This old mouse drops the crafting ingredient known as the Rhino Horn.
untitled

With that, you are ready to craft the Rhinobot! Not very complicated, huh. To make the rhinobot, you need the following ingredients:

1 Digby Drillbot Parts + 1 Rhinobot Blueprints + 1 Rhino Horn + 24 Stale Super|Brie = 1 Rhinobot

Now, it occurs to me that you actually might not actually have the required ingredients- the stale SB+ may be yet beyond your grasp.
The good news is that it’s not that hard to collect. ACRoNYM/Explosive equipped with SB+ in the catacombs will give you stale SB+ in a hurry. Alternately, if you don’t have SB+ at your disposal, equip and stale some runic somewhere outside of Bristle Woods. A bit tedious if you don’t have any SB+, but it’s totally doable.
If you don’t want to do that, catch more of the Aged Mouse- he drops stale SB+, too!

Hunters who use the Onyx Mallet may not have the Digby Drillbot either. At this point, it’s in your best interest to grab it. I know it’s expensive, but the Onyx Mallet (as you may have noticed) isn’t a great trap here; the Rhinobot will improve on that.
(If you want, you can *try* catching the nugget mouse in Digby- it will drop drillbot parts, which can be crafted into the digby drillbot.)

Points and Gold are certainly a bit of a hassle for hunters, too. How you get there is up to you. You might want to try going to Bristle Woods for the gold, and then once you’ve gotten it heading back to Elub Shore for points.

untitledAnd once you do… You can craft the Rhinobot!
Congratulations- it’s incredibly awesome to look at, isn’t it? And incredibly powerful to boot.

The Tribal Base

So we’ve gotten the best trap for these mice. However, even the awe-inspiring power of the Rhinobot may not quite be enough to take on the head mice of this tribe. We need a better base. That base is the Tribal Base, found at the trapsmith in Cape Clawed.

untitledThis base has an 18% power bonus; what could be better than adding almost 1,000 power to your Rhinobot’s already obscene power? Not much comes to mind.
The catch is that it’s 500,000 gold, AND it requires 14 million points. Now, the good news is that you have those points already. The bad news is that you probably don’t have that gold yet. So we have to hunt for gold again- use your Rhinobot in Derr and I bet you’ll make plenty.

Finishing off the Tribe

Before we begin, we’ve changed traps and bases quite a bit. If you’re a partybot user, you want to use the aqua base, while everyone else should be using the Rhinobot and the Tribal base. Got it?

Now that you have the Rhinobot, the Derr tribe is suddenly going to be a LOT easier. It’s time to bring the tribe to their knees. Head back to the Derr Dunes and equip any Crunchy Cheese that you have left. This will present three new mice for you that you have not been able to find before- the Guardian, the Gladiator, and even the head honcho. That’s right, the Crunchy cheese even attracts the Derr Chieftain.

untitleduntitleduntitled
They’re no match for your new Rhinobot. Catch them and all three of these mice drop another item- the Red Pepper seed. The Derr Chieftain also drops the Ancient Mangled Blueprint Piece.

You’re actually done with the Derr Dunes, for the most part. Feel free to head to the Nerg Plains or Elub Shore- many people do it because they get sick of missing the Derr mice!

However, you eventually will need the following from Derr Dunes:

  • 36 Red Pepper Seeds
  • The Ancient Mangled Blueprint Piece
