The Halloween Event 2010

Welcome to the Halloween event 2010!  This is an exciting event for everyone, and you should enjoy it as much as you can while it lasts! The mice are cool, the cheese is cute, and the rewards are great!

With that said, let’s dive right in. To start, head over to the new area right away! To get there you must be at least a recruit, so if you’re not there yet, head over to the Haunted Terrortories!

(The cheese you will be using here has lots of attraction, so don’t worry about that!)

So, the first big question- what cheese will you use? You can use whatever cheese you want here, but there are two special cheeses here, and those are Candy Corn and Ghouganzola. These cheeses can be collected two ways:

  1. Collect it from Mutated White/Grey mice or from Hollowhead mice (all found at the Haunted Territories)
  2. Trick or Treat!

So how does one trick or treat? Well, head to your hunter’s group page! To Trick or Treat, go to a friend’s page and click that button that says “Trick or Treat!” Everyone on mousehunt can set their profile one of two ways- to Trick, or to Treat. To set your own personal preference, head to your profile and choose if you want to trick or treat people.

  • If you trick people, they will get Ghoulganzola when they trick or treat at your profile
  • If you treat people, they will get Candy Corn when they trick or treat at your profile

You can do that a maximum of 10 times per day, so you need to have at least 10 Mousehunt friends to make the most out of this event. If you don’t have 10 MH friends, you can get through this event, albeit a bit slower- you’ll have to use brie and collect pieces of bait from mice. Ideally, you want to find 5 tricking friends and 5 treating friends. Each time you trick or treat at someone’s profile, you get 6 of the respective cheese.
Do us all a favor and set your profile to trick- all profiles are on “Treat” by default, which means a REALLY easy way to get your treats is to just trick or treat an inactive person’s profile.

So what do you do here? Well, let’s head to our trusty bar:

As you can see, there’s a few things going on here. First, there’s the location- ignore that for now; it’s not important. What matters are the two bars being filled. Every time that you catch a mouse while using Ghoulganzola, you will get a piece of the “Mice Tricked” bar filled. In the same way, using candy corn fills up the “Mice Treated” bar.

The first area is the Corn Field, and is pretty straight forward- the mice are not difficult, and any trap should get you through fairly quickly. Trick 10 mice and Treat 10 mice to progress to the next area: The Haunted Manor

Tiers 2 and 3 of the Haunted Territories

Once you’ve gotten those first 20 mice, you’ll be moved into the Haunted Manor. This unlocks several new mice for you to catch- the Burglar, Hollowhead and Bat Mouse, along with all of the Mousoleum mice (minus the Lycan).
Now, I imagine you’re doing a double take at the moment- Mousoleum mice? How on earth are you going to catch those mice using a physical trap?

Short answer? You’re not. However, if you don’t have a trap to catch shadow mice (Namely, a shadow or arcane trap), don’t fret! You don’t need one to get through this area. All told, the % of mice that are shadow type in this area are very small relative to how many of the Tier 1 mice you’ll see, and so you can still use a physical trap to catch most of the mice. Sure, you’ll lose a few pieces of cheese along the way, but that doesn’t count against you in any way, and so while it may not be ideal, it’s totally doable.

However, if you’re an older hunter looking for your best trap option, the obvious choice is the ACRoNYM. With its 3800 power and arcane power type, it pretty much cleans house, and you shouldn’t have many missed mice at all.

Once you’ve caught the requisite 40 mice in the Haunted Manor, you’ll get to go to the final area: The Pumpkin Patch! In this location, more new mice arrive- in this case it’s the Terror Knight, Skeleton and Spectre Mice, which are especially susceptible to Arcane Traps.
Once again, your best option is the ACRoNYM, but if you don’t have one you can get by with whatever your best trap is, because they aren’t a large portion of the mice that you see. Unfortunately, they are more common than in the Haunted Manor, and so you will definitely struggle quite a bit without a shadow or arcane trap. Do the best that you can with what you have, though.

While you’re here at the Haunted Terrortories, do make sure to grab yourself a Hollowhead mouse- they’re only available at Halloween. Also be sure to catch the Zombot Unipire (If you think the name is weird, wait until you see the mouse!)

Now, if you look at the bar, all of the squares look the same… except the last trick square and the last treat square. Once you get to those squares, you will meet the Trick Mouse and the Treat Mouse. While not overly difficult, you may miss them once or twice- they’re on the same level as the Nibbler mouse, or thereabouts.

And once you have both of them, you’ll get a go at the final mouse of the area- the Gourdborg! While it looks fairly awesome, it’s not anymore difficult than the trick or the treat mouse, so once again you shouldn’t have much of a problem. And upon catching it, you’ll get a piece of loot: an Evil Pumpkin Seed. Congratulations, you’ve finished the Haunted Terrortories! However, we’re not done with the event just yet…

The Pumpkin Pummeler and the Cackle Lantern

If you head to the general store in this location, you can pick up some blueprints for a trap called The Pumpkin Pummeler. They cost 168,000 gold, and when combined with the evil pumpkin seed, it becomes a shadow trap with 1150 power, a 5% power bonus, a 10% attraction bonus, 5 luck and a Fresh cheese effect.
All things considered, not an especially impressive shadow trap. Costs 20,000 more than the portals for an extra 100 power and 5 luck. Seems like it’s only worth having for collector’s value, right? However, there’s a second piece here- the pummeler can be smashed! It’s smashed into a new ingredient called Smashed Pumpkin. Using those pumpkin bits, you can make the ultimate trap from this event- the Cackle Lantern!

1 Smashed Pumpkin + 1 Drillbot Parts + 1 Obelisk Parts + Venus Mousetrap Husk + 1 Dragon Ember + 24 Platinum Bars = 1 Cackle Lantern Trap

Now, if you’re paying attention here, the price on this trap is absolutely jaw-dropping. It’s 405,000 for the drillbot parts, 299,000 for the VMT husk, 316,000 for the Obelisk parts, and 1.44 million for the platinum bars! That’s a total of almost 2.4 million gold!

However, before you flip out over that price, let’s look at the Cackle Lantern Stats:

  • 2200 power
  • 5% power bonus
  • 10% attraction bonus
  • 12 luck
  • Extremely Stale Cheese Effect
  • Bonus Effect- causes Jungle of Dread mice to occasionally drop 2 fire salt instead of just 1

So in other words, it’s roughly as powerful as the Clockapult of Time, which costs 2.7 million gold. Plus it’s got a bit more luck and increases the amount of fire salt you get in the Jungle of Dread!
While this trap most certainly isn’t for the faint of heart, those of you who can afford it get a cheaper alternative to the clock that is every bit as effective as the clock was.

The best part? So long as you get the Pumpkin Pummeler now, you can go ahead and save up for the cackle lantern, and get it whenever you’re ready, be it next week or 6 months from now.
Bottom line: get the pummeler now and use it as a replacement for your portals. Then make that Cackle Lantern later on; you’ll be set for life!

And that’s it to this event! Happy Halloween, Mousehunt!
