Mousehunt’s Third Birthday Event

Hard to believe that mousehunt is already three years old! My how the time flies. And of course, MH is once again celebrating its birthday with another event. Head over to the Event Lot (now known as the Birthday Party) to start this event!

As events go, this one’s pretty straightforward. A new cheese type, a couple of new mice, and a new trap. For those hunters who are Legendary and up, this event is not particularly exciting, and is not really worth the time- you’re most likely better off just continuing with whatever you’re doing. However, if you want to fill in all of your silhouettes, then this event will give you the opportunity to do so.

The Birthday Party

Welcome to the Birthday Party! The mice here are all dressed quite festively, and for the most part it seems that the mice are not set on causing havoc. Of course, there are still a few mice that had to mess things up just a little bit, and so your objective is to catch these mice and restore order at the party. The mice you’re looking for are the Three Blind Mice- the Buckethead, the Pintail and the Sleepwalker. Each one drops a piece of loot (Birthday Explosives, Fuse & Red Wax, respectively). Once you have all three pieces of loot, you can purchase the birthday trap.

Got all of that? Terrific- now let’s get the details sorted out.

Collecting Cupcake Colby Cheese

The first step here is to get the cheese necessary to attract the three blind mice. This cheese is known as cupcake colby cheese (looks rather strange, doesn’t it?) The only way to get this cheese is through obtaining cupcake colby potions, which can be obtained three ways:

  1. Loot drop from the cowardly mouse at the birthday party
  2. Loot drop from the curious chemist mouse at the birthday party (can only be attracted using SB+)
  3. As a gift from friends

Of the options, gifting is certainly the easiest- you can get 10 gifts per day, so that’s 10 potions per day. However, if you have to collect the loot, using SB+ is really the only good option- hunters have tried gouda/brie and have been rather frustrated by how few cowardly mice are attracted. Of course, even with SB+ the attraction rate is pretty abysmal- gifting really is the only smart option.

Once you have your potions, you can convert with either marble, brie or SB+. Once again, SB+ is the clear winner. Potion conversion is woefully small, and so you’ll need all the help you can get. If you can’t afford SB+, then definitely use brie instead of marble- you’ll run of of cheese far too quickly using marble.

Whatever you decide to do, equip your cupcake colby and start hunting. As I mentioned before, your goal is to get the Buckethead, Pintail and Sleepwalker mice. While you’re at it, you will attract a bunch of magic & silvertail mice, both of which are normally only attracted to SB+, which can save you a bit of SB+ if you haven’t hunted for them yet.

Be prepared for quite a long ordeal at the party- all three mice are incredibly rare (between 1-3% attraction), and the drop rate of loot is not 100%. The good news is that they’re all very easy to catch and should fall quickly to any hunter using at least the Swiss Army Mouse Trap.

Once you have caught all of the mice and gotten all of their loot, head to the trapsmith and collect your reward! By turning in all three pieces and forking over 289,000 gold, you can purchase the Birthday Candle Kaboom. With a 30% power bonus and 20% attraction bonus, it’s a very impressive looking trap. However, 2,400 power and 14 luck makes it less powerful than the Pneumatic Tube Trap and certainly less useful than the Rhinobot. That means that this trap is ultimately a novelty and not worth buying. Most hunters got the tube last month, and those who didn’t are probably better off saving their near-300,000 gold for buying other traps instead.

What about upgrades?
The devs have stated that this trap will not be upgraded, so no luck there- sorry!

Catching the Terrible Twos Mouse

Getting the kaboom makes up the majority of this event, but there is one last thing to do- for hunters who have not done so already, there’s the Terrible Twos Mouse from last year, making a return so that hunters that didn’t catch it last time have the chance to do so. As was true last time, the Terrible Twos can only be caught using one type of trap- the parental type. However, many hunters don’t have a parental trap available to them- what to do? This year, hunters have the option to use a special charm to substitute for the nannybot trap from last year- by equipping the Nanny Charm, your trap will become a “parental” type trap, making your trap very effective against the Terrible Twos Mouse. As with the potions, you can get these charms either as loot or as a gift from friends. The Magic Mouse and Cowardly Mouse both drop nanny charms, and you can gift your friends three charms at a time. Of the options, waiting for the loot makes the most sense, as you need those gifts from friends in the form of cupcake colby potions; charms are common enough as a loot drop.

Catching the mouse doesn’t provide anything special- it’s simply to fill in the blanks. However, there is a nice perk to catching one- it carries the Chocolate Birthday Cake Base as loot. While not a particularly useful base, it too is a nice blank to fill in.

Odds & Ends

A couple of things left to discuss: The Birthday Mouse and the Cheesecake Base.

Birthday Mice can be found at the Birthday Party, dropping gift boxes. The gifts that are contained inside are pretty ordinary, for the most part. If you’re lucky you can get something special such as a couple pieces of SB+ or a king’s credit, but for the most part you’ll find that it only contains pieces of regular cheese.

And last, but not least, the cheesecake base. Provide the trapsmith with the requisite amount of Curds & Whey and Brie (both purchasable on-site from the store) along with gold asked and you can have a cool-looking base! It carries 175 power, a 3% power bonus & a 20% attraction bonus. It’s almost identical to the Wooden Base w/ Target, and all for a low price of… 80,000 gold. Yikes! An awfully expensive base when you consider that the difference between it and the target base is virtually unnoticeable. It’s like the kaboom- a collectible, but not a necessity or even a recommended base for anyone. If you’re short on gold, I’d save it and not bother with this base.

And that wraps it up.
