The Digby Dirt Dwellers
This subsection of Mousehunt is a very curious one. This is the only section of mousehunt that is totally invisible to hunters unless they know how to find it. Similar to the Dojo Sensei, most hunters will quickly overlook this area until they read a guide telling them to come back here and look for it. It is a completely optional part of Mousehunt and serves little purpose beyond giving you more mice for your collection, along with a unique base that, while powerful, is inferior to the Molten Shrapnel and thus is not necessary.
So with that in mind, I give the same disclaimer I gave for Balack’s Cove: There is no explicit purpose for being here. Do not feel that you must come to chase after the Digby Dirt Dwellers. Due to the way this area is set up, it is similar to Balack’s Cove in that it’s VERY frustrating to collect the cheese necessary to hunt here. There are measures being considered by the devs to make cheese collection easier at a later point, so be aware and on the lookout for those updates.
The Dirt Dwellers
The Town of Digby has generally been the place where Master-ranked hunters go to buy a Sinister Portal and to collect the mousoleum map from a zombie mouse. However, during the 2-year Birthday of Mousehunt, they released a slew of new mice called the Digby Dirt Dwellers. These mice, totally unseen by regular hunters, can only be attracted using a special type of cheese. This cheese is known as Limelight cheese. In order to make this cheese, you need a few key ingredients:
30 C&W + 3 Radioactive Sludge + 3 Living Shards = 3 Limelight Cheese
(Living Shards are purchased in the general store in Digby)
Using this cheese, you can attract the eleven different types of mice that call themselves Dirt Dwellers. These mice can only be attracted using Limelight, and when you use Limelight you will not attract any other kinds of mice.
(This of course is only true in Digby- elsewhere you’re just wasting cheese!)
SO, now we know how to get there: what do we need to hunt there? Well, first we obviously need Limelight. This requires lots of Radioactive Sludge, which is often tough to acquire. Some people have resorted to crafting Radioactive Blue and sitting in a location just staling piece after piece. This is both painful and boring, though. What I referenced above in regards to the developers fixing this problem is known as the Stale Shop. This shop does not exist today, but we hope that it will come into existence in the future. When it does, hunters will be able to exchange their cheese for a stale equivalent for a small fee in gold. This will save you a LOT of time staling, although obviously it won’t be free.
With that in mind, many people (myself included) are holding off on hunting for these new mice. In my case, I don’t have anymore sludge, and I’d rather not sit somewhere staling for days to get a shot at hunting totally optional mice. However, if you’re out of other things to do, then why not go for it? Obviously that’s your own decision to make.
As for the trap, these mice are equally susceptible to four different types: Physical, Tactical, Shadow and Arcane. With that in mind, equip your strongest trap out of those four types. For many hunters, that will be the ACRoNYM; for others it will be the Rhinobot. If you own a powerful Ronza trap such as the Chrome Drillbot, that would be your best bet.
And then of course, equip your strongest base. Go for power or luck, depending on your trap. I defer to your own personal experience on this one: I imagine that if you’re after these mice, you know by now what bases are best with what traps.
So what is the goal? Well, to catch all of the mice that are here, of course! However, there are two mice in particular that are the most difficult to get, so set your sights on these two: the Nugget Mouse and the Big Bad Burroughs Mouse.
The Nugget mouse is actually the weakest of all of the mice in this area. However, it’s also exceedingly rare; typically you’ll burn through at least 200 pieces before getting a nugget mouse. They have been known to drop Digby Drillbot Parts, which you can then reconstruct into the Digby Drillbot and/or Rhinobot; at the very least you can sell the drillbot for some quick gold, which is pretty cool!
As for the BBB, it may be the toughest mouse in the game to catch on the difficulty scale. Because it’s a physical mouse, nothing is particularly effective against it, which means that even the more powerful mice such as the Acolyte or the Dragon are easier to catch by virtue of their trap weaknesses. This mouse continues to elude even the toughest of hunters; you will see plenty of them, and you will also miss this mouse plenty of times. However, the reward is well worth it- once you have caught it, you will be the owner of one of the biggest trophies in mousehunt! The BBB is also the mouse that drops the Monolith Base, which is a VERY powerful base for hunters to equip. Like I said, it’s not as powerful as the Molten Shrapnel, but it’s still a great base for every hunter who is not yet a knight and therefore doesn’t have access to that base yet.
And with that, you’re done! Back to catching Pygmy mice, or something.
