d. Furoma
Quick Recap
- You hunted in the mousoleum using either the sinister portal, the ambrosial portal or the partybot. Doesn’t matter which- they are all good.
- You caught a lycan mouse, and the lycan mouse dropped a Shredded Furoma Map Piece. If you didn’t do that, you got the map piece from a Mole
Mouse in Digby. If you don’t have this map piece, GET IT NOW.
- Regardless of how you got the map piece, you hunted in the mousoleum until you got a lot of gold; you are striving to get 415,000 gold. You need
this amount as well, so once again if you do not have it yet, get it please.
- For some added fun, you can go to Whisker Woods and catch some mice in the Great Gnarled Tree. Furoma opens up when you reach the level of
Grandmaster, and so does the Lagoon. So, it would make sense to have access to the Lagoon. Read up on it in the whisker woods section.
FUROMA
Well, you’ve braved the mess of the Burroughs and of the mousoleum. A bit tired of missing mice, I’m sure. However, you have to admit it was pretty cool getting new mice after you’d seen the same old thing for such a long time. I have great news for this next area: you get a TON of new mice, and they’re nowhere near as difficult for you to catch. Win-win situation! However, there’s a catch to this area: you aren’t going to make anywhere near as much money here. The most valuable mouse that you can expect to catch on a regular basis is only worth 950 gold. There are a few mice that are worth more, but they’re exceedingly rare and can’t really be relied upon like the mousoleum mice were. Don’t worry, though- you don’t need much gold to hunt in the new area, so you’ll be fine.
Where are we headed, exactly? The map leads the way- you’re going to Furoma, the land of the tactical mice.
So let’s start our usual preparations then, shall we? First, we need to go back to Gnawnia and buy some cheese. Once again, do you want Brie or do you want Swiss?
Honestly, this time it’s up to you. You’ll make more money with Swiss cheese, but since you aren’t making much money ANYWAY, most of us just use Brie cheese. You catch more mice, and ultimately that’s what is important in Furoma.
Whichever cheese you pick, buy about 300 pieces, more if you can afford it.
Next, is there anything in the Burroughs that you really want to do? How about in Gnawnia? Now is the time to get it done. The price of moving to and from Furoma is even higher than the Burroughs and so it’s in your best interest to get things done now instead of forgetting them and going back later. For example, do you have the Dehydration Base yet? If not, pick up the salt and the blueprints while you are in Gnawnia- you’ll be able to make it as soon as you go to the Training Grounds. Still want the Mole or Monster Mouse? Hunt for them now instead of wasting money traveling to get them later (unless you’re willing to wait until you’re done in Furoma, of course).
I mean, don’t freak out about making sure that you get everything done- travel isn’t THAT expensive. However, it’s foolish to make 3 or 4 trips at 4,000 gold apiece; that’s a LOT of cheese.
Also, many hunters find themselves with some leftover Radioactive Blue as they hit Grandmaster, leaving them to wonder what the heck they should do with it? Well, you’ve got a few options. You can use it in the mousoleum to make some more gold, you can use it in the lab and search for the Monster Mouse, or you can save it. As a legendary you’ll be using it again, so you will be glad to have some left over when that time comes.
Anyway, when you’re ready to go, let’s head to the Training Grounds!
TRAINING GROUNDS
You’ll notice that we’re not sure of our trap or our base yet, so let’s square that away right now.
First of all, any and all normal traps are out of the question. The NVMRC Forcefield trap, the Mouse DeathBot, even the all-powerful Digby DrillBot will not be effective, here. We have to move on, just as we did in the mousoleum. In the mousoleum it was shadow traps, and in here, it’s the tactical trap.
Did you get that Venus Mouse Trap in Whisker Woods? If you didn’t, you need to do so now! Now look at how many points you have: is it at least 827,500? If not, get to that amount! The Great Gnarled Tree should help you do so very quickly.
Once you’re at 827,500 points and you have the Venus Mouse Trap, smash it using your hunter’s hammer. Next, check if you had any Radioactive Blue cheese go stale. You need a total of 20; however
many you are short, you’ll need to collect now. To do that, equip your stalest trap combination; The sinister portal with the explosive base is probably the stalest thing you’ve got. Head to any location where Radioactive Blue cheese isn’t normally used. The Town of Gnawnia, the Great Gnarled Tree, whatever you prefer. Once you’ve gotten those 20 radioactive sludge, smash your Venus Mouse Trap and combine it with your radioactive sludge to make the Mutated Venus Mouse Trap. This trap outdoes Zugzwang’s Last Move, plus it’s a lot cheaper. Not to mention you’ll be reusing this very trap later on.
As for the base: if you have a Limited Edition Base, use it. Otherwise, you should equip the Explosive base.
If you’ve got the disposable income, another option would be to purchase the Bamboozler Base from the Training Grounds. You get a better power bonus than with the explosive base, which gives you a stronger total power with the Mutated VMT. However, at 90,000 gold, don’t do it just yet. You’ll be spending 90,000 on something else far more important soon enough!
Once you’ve got your trap/base figured out, you get to actually start hunting. Hooray! Now, what are we looking for? Well, we’re looking for either an Archer or a Kung Fu mouse- they drop an item that is known as the Ticket to the Burroughs Bazaar. Yep, we’re getting yet another map piece here. This is one occasion where it’s not likely that you will get it right away; most archers and kung fu mice don’t carry it, and I’ve seen people go days without their ticket. However, you will get it eventually, don’t worry! Once you do, the new location of the Bazaar will appear on your travel page in The Burroughs, and so we get to head back there! Well, eventually. You need gold… again. 90,000, to be exact. I know, it’s a LOT of gold, but the good news is that you can just hunt in the Training Grounds and enjoy some new mice for a while, so collecting that gold doesn’t feel so horrible.
But wait! Before you do, we need to do some more shopping. The general store has a bunch of items for sale that you want. Most important is Splintered Wood! So if you’ve been impatiently sitting on your salt and dehydration blueprints up until now, feel free to buy your splintered wood and hastily build the Dehydration Base. Success and glory!
Next we need to buy some ingredients for future use. Again, minimize the traveling that we have to do. Buy 15 more pieces of splintered wood, 10 pieces of Burroughs Salmon, 10 Nori and 3 Rice Paper.
OK, got all that? Terrific- a-traveling we go! Back to the Burroughs, to the Burroughs Bazaar!
THE BAZAAR

I don’t really have a trap recommendation here- just equip your strongest trap and the cheese you were using in the Training Grounds.
The reason you are here is to see the stores available. Namely, the cartographer. Yes, you finally get to meet this cartographer whom you may have heard about. You’re going to hand him your Shredded Furoma Map Piece. You now have 24 hours to twiddle your thumbs while you wait for him to fix the map. How best to use that time? Well, you can go back to the mousoleum and use any Radioactive Blue you have left over (as I mentioned earlier on), or you can just stay in the Bazaar and hunt.
PLANKRUN’S JOURNAL
Actually, now is a good time to introduce Plankrun’s Journal, because you could hunt for a piece of the journal while you’re here. Plankrun, for those of you who are not aware, was the first mousehunter, many years ago. He paved the way for us hunters to do what we do today. He kept a journal as he traveled, but that journal was lost across time. Hunters can find pages of this journal by catching mice that carry the pages. Who knows what you may find inside…?
Ok, we know exactly what’s inside Plankrun’s Journal- let’s be honest, here. Basically, there are four mice that can drop pages of his journal. Usually it is a rare drop from the mouse, leaving hunters to spend DAYS catching one mouse trying to find the one that has the pages to the journal. There is not intrinsic value to the pages of the journal- they are merely an interesting thing to collect to provide a sort of backstory to the game.
The wiki link shows which mice drop the pages, and as you can see one of them is the Burglar Mouse in the Bazaar. So, while you wait for your map to be fixed, feel free to try for the burglar! Alternately, you can look for the mole mouse in Digby to find the same thing. Whatever works for you, really.
Once the map is repaired, three new locations open up for you- The Dojo, the Meditation Room and the Pinnacle Chamber. Before you valiantly head off to see what can be found there, go into the Bazaar General Store and buy some more supplies. Buy 10 buckets of Paint-Brand Paint, 10 bags of Cheesy Fluffs, and 10 bottles of Invisi-Glue. Also, buy 5 ionized salt and 250 Curds & Whey (or buy enough Curds & Whey so that you have 250 of them). Once again I realize it’s a bit expensive, but you might as well do it now.
If you’re REALLY rich, you can purchase 8 droid parts. However, I understand if you can’t afford them, so we can come back for those later.
And then it’s off to the Dojo! I hope you got the Mutated Venus Mouse Trap or have one of those Limited Edition traps, because if you don’t you’re about to get SERIOUSLY thrashed. You’ve been warned!
THE DOJO
Welcome to the Dojo. I hope you like it here, because you will most likely be here for quite a while. It’s actually a very nice place- there’s a lot of cool mice here and it’s one of my favorite places to hunt just because I’ve always enjoyed the mice that you can catch here.
The mice are mostly the same as they were in the Training Grounds, with a few exceptions. There are no dwarf or white mice here, but there are three new mice here- the Student of
the Cheese Fang, the Student of the Cheese Claw and the Student of the Cheese Belt. These mice are incredibly important and are the reason you are in the dojo. You may notice they aren’t worth a whole lot of gold, so clearly there’s more to it. Catching one makes it obvious- they ALL drop a unique piece of loot (although they don’t drop it 100% of the time, it’s about 99% of the time- I pity you if they don’t drop one!) I’ll explain it’s use further down. For now, know that you’re aiming to catch about 30 of each student. Like I said, we’ll be here for a while!
So how do we catch them? You see, the dojo is a place where a lot of people get really upset with the game. It’s like hunting for the Lycan mouse, except that because you actually DO catch a few students from time to time, you are constantly being teased by them and so people get quite upset at the game when things don’t go as well as they’d hoped. One of the worst problems is that almost EVERY player seems to catch 2 students with relative ease, while the third one eludes them indefinitely. I personally had a lot of trouble getting the Student of the Cheese Belt at first, and currently I suffer from a shortage of Student of the Cheese Claw. What you need to remember is that this is normal- everyone seems to have bad luck with one student and EVERYONE has trouble catching them, overall. Your trap is not broken and there is not some way to “fix” this.
Now, there ARE ways to help increase your odds of getting students. One of those ways is to pick the right base. I personally think that the explosive base is the right answer, but you can switch out for the Dehydration Base and see if you have some more success with that one instead. I can’t honestly say which one will work best, and they are more or less the same. However, there is something to be said about putting your own mind at ease and a great way to do this is to change your base.
Another way to change things up is to use another cheese. While this won’t affect your catch rate, if you see more students you get that many more chances to catch them. I don’t mean switching from Brie to Swiss- that would be stupid and would have the opposite effect. BUT, if you want to use SB+, it will help. Students have their encounter rate increased by the use of SB+ (just like the black widow does). You can also try maki. To do this, you need to back to the Training Grounds and pick up some Nori, because in order to make it you need the following:
3 Curds & Whey + 3 Magic Essence + 1 Nori = 3 Maki
(if you forgot, you get Magic Essence by smashing SB+ with your hunter’s hammer in the crafting page)
Maki further increases the number of student mice who will come to your trap, even over SB+. Many people complain “But I still can’t catch them!” Erm, so what? Simple logic says that if you get 100 chances to catch students, you’re more likely to catch the 30 you need than if you only saw 30 of them, right? So yeah- if you are willing to spend the SB+, Maki can speed the process along quite a bit!
So, what are these tokens used for? Well, if you were lucky enough to get the page of Plankrun’s journal found in the Dojo, you may already know what they are for. If not, let’s use a bit of deduction. First, they are items that are used in crafting. Second, if you read some descriptions, you can get a pretty good sense of what it is that you’re trying to do.
…If you’re still lost, we’re making some new cheese. This is why we bought all these random supplies in the Training Grounds and in the Bazaar, along with buying a TON of Curds & Whey. There are three pieces of cheese that you are going to make: Susheese, Combat and Glutter.
3 Curds & Whey + 1 Burroughs Salmon + 1 Nori + 3 Token of the Cheese Claw = 3 Susheese
5 Curds & Whey + 1 Paint-Brand Paint + 1 Splintered Wood + 3 Token of the Cheese Fang = 3 Combat
7 Curds & Whey + 1 Cheesy Fluffs + 1 Invisi-Glue + 3 Token of the Cheese Belt = 3 Glutter
These cheeses are not used in the Dojo, though- no, they are used in the next level of the Pagoda: the Meditation Room. You can go hunting with this cheese in the Meditation Room as often as you like- the travel cost is only 25 gold, and so if you want to go up with only 3 cheese, feel free. I recommended 30 because it’s a nice round number and it helps to ensure that you will catch at least one mouse before you run out of the cheese. However, it doesn’t really matter. When you feel up to the challenge, head upstairs.
THE MEDITATION ROOM
There are three that you are looking for: the Master of the Cheese Fang, the Master of the Cheese Claw and the Master of the Cheese Belt (imagine that!)
I warn you now- they are tough mice, and some people can go through all 30 pieces of their cheese and not catch the respective mouse. I pray this does not happen to you. If it does, then I remind you that this is just a game and that there are worse things!
Your goal is to catch one of each. Once you catch a master, stop using your cheese to catch more! This is important- don’t waste your cheese trying to catch as many masters as you can. The reason for this is that once you have one of each master, you will be ready to try for the next trap- the Ambush. To begin, take your three shards and craft them together into a Master’s Seal . You don’t need any other ingredients- just throw one of each into the recipe.
GETTING THE AMBUSH TRAP
By now you’re probably pretty well-seasoned hunter, right? Caught some students and some masters, shared some great moments and some terrible frustration trying to do so.
Well, things can be easier. All you need to do is craft the next trap: The Ambush. So how do we do this? Here is the recipe:
1 Ambush Trap Blueprints + 3 Rice Paper + 8 Droid Parts + 5 Splintered Wood + 1 Master’s Seal = 1 Ambush
You should have all of these ingredients, save one- the blueprints. If you didn’t get the droid parts, buy them from the Bazaar now.
Actually, you might already have the blueprints. In the dojo, both the Assassin Mouse and the Worker Mouse drop the blueprints, so if you caught one with a set of blueprints, terrific! It saves you the trouble of having to find some now.
If you don’t, we get to go hunting! Remember the Hapless Mice that you saw in the dojo? Useless mouse, huh- weak and worth nothing. Well, leave it to the developers to make sure that you need them! They drop Ambush Trap Blueprints. However, they don’t drop them in the Dojo. Instead, they drop them in the Meditation Room and Pinnacle Chamber.
If you use any cheese in either of those two rooms besides the cheese that is specifically designed to catch the corresponding master mouse, all you will see are hapless mice. So theoretically if all you see are Hapless mice and if they drop the blueprints, this should be a pretty painless task!
And really, it is. Equip Swiss or Brie (Swiss if you have it to minimize the gold you lose) and go into the Meditation Room. It’s a really easy task… it’s just REALLY boring. Stick with it until you get the blueprints; that’s about all I can say.
And then, once you have all of your ingredients, go ahead and give the crafting a try! Once you get the Ambush, it replaces ALL tactical traps; this should be the only trap you use in Furoma ever again! Sweet, huh.
With your new trap in hand, it’s time for a showdown with the final mouse in Furoma- the Master of the Dojo.
The Pinnacle Chamber
You have the trap and the base, so there’s only one thing left to do: make some rumble cheese.
To do that, buy the following ingredients in quantities directly related to the amount of shards that you have the least of. So if you only have 2 belt shards, but you’ve got 4 claw and 5 fang shards, buy two sets of the following:
1 Ionized Salt
20 Curds & Whey
Both can be purchased at the Bazaar general store. When you have done this, combine each shard (SEPARATELY) with the curds and why and ionized salt, like so:
1 Master Claw Shard + 1 Master Belt Shard + 1 Master Fang Shard + 1 Ionized Salt + 20 Curds & Whey = 3 Rumble Cheese
With that, you can head to the Pinnacle Chamber to face off against the Master of the Dojo. He’s a very difficult mouse to catch; more difficult than any other mouse you’ve seen. Don’t be surprised if you have difficult time nabbing him; like with the masters, I’ve seen people use 15+ pieces to get their first Mojo (as he’s often known).
The good news is that you only need one. You need what he drops: the Onyx Stone. With that you can create a VERY powerful trap.
Now, where you go next is entirely up to you. With the Ambush trap, you have the means to hunt down the Hydra and to attempt to build the boat to Rodentia. Or, you can head back towards the Mousoleum and figure out what’s going on in Bristle Woods.
Which path you take is up to you. Read up on whatever section you’re going to read. Just know that as was true before, you’ll have to do both sooner or later!
If you’ve heard about the other mouse in the Pinnacle Chamber (that is, the legendary Sensei), check out the Rare Mice page for more info!
